Wordpress Theme Shopcoholic

20 Aug

Maybe you are wondering why I always change my theme from time to time but I will confess that I’m just like any typical girl I love shopping. I love the thrills of scouting quality goods on sale, but what if it’s free? Then it’s better, the WordPress community is filled with talented designers offering not only free but fantastic themes.

So what are the criteria for a non techie like me to look in a theme.

1. Clean and simple.

2. Easy to install.

3. No need to change any code whatsoever except of course the header to suit my taste.

4. Can be viewed in explorer, safari and Mozilla Firefox.

5. It supports widgets and conforms to the latest version of WordPress.

6. And most of all it should be free.

It’s over a year ago that I started to blog and I tried to install a couple of fantastic few but my problem is that I’m a just an end user without knowledge of tweaking I always end up messing up my site. Thanks to my Inweb Hotel who always helpful when I encounter problem in my sites. I remember when I upgraded to WordPress 2.8 last June my site went berserk, I can’t post images and link did not worked and some of my readers said that the feed doesn’t worked. I used a few themes that I really like but I got bored or I encountered problems with it then I, the perpetual shopaholic go out in the world wide web and shop. It’s like window shopping and trying it on then decide what I should use.
Then I encountered templatelite.com which own by Brian and he’s so talented and I found 2 themes that i like. I’m not so wild with scrapping, flowers, ribbons or anything that’s so girlish. (I think I’m a man lol) . But Brian makes it so nice and tone down so I first tried papercraft shown below and wow I’m impressed it was easy and clean but I need to change the little girl since I’m a Filipina and it will take hours with my beginner’s knowledge of Photoshop . But you download the psd file with a fee then you are able to tweak it the way you want it. But I can’t afford that because I’m just a student and this blog doesn’t earn anything yet so I have to find another theme.

Now, The Filipinamom in Denmark is wearing this coffe desk theme which I think it’s perfect because right now I’m sitting in my oak table with coffee, my laptop, my organizer (yes they call it calendar in Danish and its a must) and a pen though not a Montblanc. This is still a personal blog so it fits I just need to change the font in the header then its done.

Coffetable theme

This is not a paid review or anything but this is just appreciation of people in the worldpress community who offers free themes and tips which spent several hours and hard work. I once encountered a post about thankless community so I wanted to thank wordpress for giving us this wonderful and powerful blog platform and all those who offer their themes and plugins for free.

Thank you Brian and you can visit his site at http://www.templatelite.com/ and avail of his nice and wonderful themes.

The Alphabet tag

24 Apr

If you search in my posts I haven’t done any tag or meme except the Prayer Tag from Mel because I believe the power of prayer. I don’t like receiving chain letters in my email in any form but I found out tagging or Meme’s actually is beneficial if you are blogging. It’s a way to connect with bloggers friends and a great way to post in between writer block (or blog block). It’s also a way to appreciating your loyal readers/friends who chose to tag you by linking them in your post when you do the tag.

So you think you know me for A to Z well, I didn’t know me either until I did this Alphabet tag which is lying in draft for a long time now. I been tagged by Marlene I’m sorry if it’s only now I will post this.

To those new here I’m a Filipina who happened to found my soul mate and my true love here in the North far away from my motherland, the Philippines. I love my life here and almost fully integrated to the new culture but I still long for my own culture and heritage . I miss my family, friends, my colleagues, my clients, my workers, my books, my mango trees, my coconut trees, my music, jeepneys, the people, and many things. When I was new here they ask me what is our culture then I started to think of the things I took for granted when I was still in the Philippines now I am proud to share to the world what I am and where I came from and will not be forgotten because I will pass it on  to my son.

That’s why, I thank you my dear readers through my blog I can share and get to know other bloggers, their thoughts, advocacies, their problems, their families, their cities and their cultures and somehow quench my thirst about news and events in my motherland and around the world. It’s also became an instrument to spread the advocacies like this Blog Reader Appreciation Day.Through your visits and comments my dear readers I slowly finding my self again, my self confidence and be appreciated .

Mental Block or Blog Block

7 Sep

It’s been quite a while now I haven’t posted anything since we left for the Philippines.

And there’s a lot reason why:

  • Suddenly I forgot my pin code even my email where I keep it I can not access. It’s just my mind suddenly went on holiday/vacation mode. Well the culprit is the tools which makes life easier but makes your memory dull just let the computer remember all  my accounts pin code. I’m using Flock as a web browser which is a fantastic browser but when I cleared all the cookies because I got some spams and so as my codes vanish.  I reset most of the passwords almost a uniform for all my accounts somewhere somehow my I can’t my email what ever I do I can not recover.
  • I was down with a flu 2 days before our flight back home in Denmark then when we arrived went to school right away and next day cooked some foods to sell in our both in the International Day in Copenhagen.  Then next day totally exhausted and down with the flu-high fever, terrible headache and sore throat. Went to the doctor who prescribe penicillin because obviously I got throat and ear infections.  I’m was a little hesitant to go tot he doctor because they will not give any antobiotic if you just got a viral infection but this time it’s bacterial so they gave me penicillin 800mg 3x a day.  I was bedridden 4 days I think I had some bedsores.

So next time

  • I will log in manually and try to more mind exercises. Actually I introduce some mind exercise in my class like name that city in a certain continent or name that country and many more and my class was wild with it now they mane all countries in Africa.  Some nice mind exercise is puzzle and sudoko but I’m not fond of it and I hate numbers (and I’m an engineer hahahaha ).  I remember most mobile and phone numbers of my friends and family because you can not rely on your phones memory once it lost your contacts are lost.  It’s very important to memorize important numbers in case of emergency.
  • Try to eat healthy food and eat my vitamins especially Vitamin C and fish oil or my multi vitamins even during vacations.  Juggling between school works and  house chore and  minding an active pre schooler is tiring.  Remember we aren’t getting younger.
  • Try to finish all the postings I save on my draft and post it.

The Joy of Blogging

23 Jul

Since 2002 when I discover blogging, I was just a reader or what they call a blog hopper . I discovered it when I was homesick and I goggled anything about the Philippines. Back then I enjoy reading other blogs most were through Pinoyblog.com get to know some who were pioneer i pinoy blogging. Then I started to blog but I don’t know what to write about. But I was a perfectionist I want to write like the big timers but I’m not a writer and i also got scared on what I read in some comments or in the forums where even the slightest grammatical error were commented. I thought I can not take that.

Just like learning the a new language at first I was so hesitant to speak even I got a grade of 10 (B)in writing and grammar but I’m still poor in communication because everybody was correcting me and I don’t want to be corrected even with good or bad intentions. But then somebody told me just speak so that you learn, it’s their problem if they can’t understand you, she told me. So I did, even my tongue got twisted I tried and now they can not sell me anymore.

The lesson is I don’t care if my writing is not peerfect but maybe in a year or so I will improve so just I write to my hearts content. And for the first time, 2 weeks ago my stats counter plummeted from just less than 100 to now 442 hits wow and someone commented. I felt the excitement especially when there’s some comments waiting to be moderated and wow it’s nice to be noticed especially some of the fellow mommy bloggers like Brownpinay, pinaymommyonline, and desperateblogger cared to visit my site and commented and linked my site to them. I felt ecstatic, I thought star bloggers are snob but not all. All I need to do is to interact not just a reader then you’ll get a response.

So to all who those who read my blog thank you for your time and I try my best to come up with something. I read a tip that you just act yourself so I going to blog about what I like and care about and I will publish some posts that’s been lying on my draft for along time.

I new to this so just hang on there I’m still in the process of learning if you have any corrections, tips or comments I would surely welcome it.

Happy blogging!!!

Welcome to my blog

5 Oct

Welcome to my blog. This blog is about my own thoughts about motherhood, parenting, my experiences of my integration to the new society while the taking pride of my Filipino culture. Living abroad taught me a lot of things and also look at things in another perspective.

Somebody ask me when I was new here what is your culture it took me awhile before I can not answer because this things we don’t think so much in the Philippines. Then I tried to remember all the things that makes a Filipino and be try to tell them about it.

It was funny though that while in the Philippines we usually looks forward to what’s new abroad but now it is the opposite. I’m quite new to blogging, ok i started some but quite apprehensive what to write about but now I consider to do it seriously.

I also fond of photography and architecture so I will try once in a while to blog about it.

Nice reading.
